Jewish Migration from Byzantine Empire into Khazar Khaganate c.933 CE

Al-Masudi writes:
The population consists of Muslims, Christians, Jews and pagans. The king, his court, all Khazars, practice Judaism, which became the dominant religion in the state since the caliphate of Harun al-Rashid: many Jews came to settle in the Khazars from all Muslim cities and countries of the Roman Empire (Byzantine), because now in the year 332 (AH), Armanous Emperor of Rome, persecuted the Jews of his empire to convert to Christianity."

The conversion of AH into CE takes into consideration the lunar calendar of Islam, using this convertor, arabtranslators.org/atn_calendar.htm 322AH is therefore 933 CE.

Armanous therefore is Romanos I Lekapenos (Romanus Lecapenus), during whose reign (920-944 CE), forced conversions and persecutions of Jews.

Al-Masudi's history (Meadows of Gold and Quarries of Jewels) was allegedly completed by 947 CE, but edited throughout the author's lifetime (896-956 CE) making his account contemporaneous with these events described.
